With swimming and gymnastics in the rearview mirror, track & field and the late stages of several team sports -- including 5x5 basketball and soccer -- are taking center stage as the Paris Games enter their final week.

Quincy Hall was one of the biggest highlights on Wednesday as he came from behind to capture gold in the men's 400 meters while setting a personal best of 43.40 seconds. That was the first gold medal in the event for the United States since LaShawn Merritt in 2008.

Women's wresting seems to be thriving as Amit Elor took gold in the 68-kilogram class Tuesday, and Sarah Hildebrandt continued that momentum by taking gold in the 50-kilogram event on Wednesday. This the first time two American women won wrestling gold in the same Olympics.

It was also a good day in the pool as Team USA took silver in the artistic swimming team event, which was the first time the Americans saw the podium in 20 years.

But Wednesday was not completely filled with success. The U.S. men's beach volleyball team of Miles Partain and Andrew Benesh fell to Qatar in the quarterfinals. The women's duo of Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng had also lost in the quarterfinals, which means that the United States failed to earn a beach volleyball medal for the first time since the sport debuted in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

All of those Team USA results and much more are available below. The excitement will continue on Thursday as Noah Lyles -- who won gold in the 100 meters -- chases gold in the 200 meters to complete the coveted sprint double. The Americans will be well represented in that event with Kenneth Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton also competing.

The United States continues to lead the Paris Olympics with 94 total medals, and is edging China in the gold medal department 27 to 25. Overall, China is second overall with 65 medals, while the host country of France has 50 thus far.

The Olympics run until Aug. 11, and on this page, CBS Sports will be tracking the entire event from the perspective of the United States. You will find everything you need to know about Team USA's performances from gold-medal victories and record-breaking efforts to fun moments and (unfortunately some) crushing defeats.

Check out the key links below for everything you need to know about the Olympics, while the live updates further down the page will chronicle every important moment and medal opportunity from Team USA over the course of these games.

Men's Beach Volleyball: Miles Partain, Andrew Benesh lose as USA marks wrong type of first

Team USA's men's beach volleyball pairing of Miles Partain and Andrew Benesh fell to Qatar in the quarterfinals, 21-14, 21-16, meaning the Americans will not receive any hardware in this sport for the first time.

The team of Partain and Benesh was the last chance, men's or women's, for the United States to medal in a sport it has found the podium at least once since its 1992 debut. The other men's team in Paris, Chase Budinger and Miles Evans, lost in the Round of 16. On the women's side, Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng lost in the quarterfinals, and Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss lost in the Round of 16.

🥈 Men's Track & Field: Kenneth Rooks surges to silver in 3,000m steeplechase

Kenneth Rooks waited and waited and waited and then made his move. In the end it wasn't quite enough for gold, but it was enough for a mighty impressive silver in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. After spending the first half of the race at or near the back of the pack, Rooks took the lead on the final lap, stunning the rest of the field. Reigning Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco chased Rooks down and passed him on the final straightaway, but Rooks was able to hold off Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot for silver, running nine seconds faster than his previous personal best.
